FAQ

Short answers about what Langbot is, what it is not, and how it handles your keys and data.

On this page

Is Langbot a trading bot?

No. Langbot is the data and simulation layer for every market on Kalshi and Polymarket: markets and their history, recorded order books, a simulator with the venues' fees, and timestamped facts about what was said on live events. It comes with a runtime and reference strategies so you can act on it yourself, with your own keys, on your own machine.

Does it tell me what to buy?

No. An event says "'tariff' was spoken at this millisecond by this speaker, with this confidence". Base rates, scorecards and the models describe the record, with their sample sizes and caveats. Deciding what to do is yours. See Data and use.

Does Langbot ever hold my venue keys or my money?

No. Keys stay on your machine (~/.config/langbot/config.toml or your environment), orders go from your machine to the venue, and the hosted service never sees your keys, orders, balances or positions.

Which venues can I trade on?

From the command line, Kalshi: demo by default, real money only with --env prod --yes-real-money. Polymarket US is available from the Python library through PolymarketUSClient. Market data covers every listed market on both Kalshi and Polymarket. See Live trading and risk.

Does Langbot settle markets?

No. The venue settles its own markets under its own rules. A verdict on a phrase hit is Langbot's reading of the rules, and an evidence pack is something a resolver can check; neither is a settlement.

How fast is the live record?

It is measured, not claimed: every event carries t_spoken, t_detected and t_emitted, and the latency board publishes the lead over the public webcast per source with sample counts. See Live events. Your plan's delay is applied on top.

What if a venue delays orders on live markets?

Then speed matters less, and the latency table in every Sim scorecard shows how much of a result depended on it. langbot sim run --taker-delay replays a strategy with a venue speed bump.

Does the MCP server work with my agent framework?

Yes. It is standard MCP over stdio or streamable HTTP, so it works with Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, the Claude Agent SDK, the OpenAI Agents SDK, LangGraph and any other MCP client. See Connect your agent.

Can I get the raw audio or full transcripts?

Not the audio. Transcripts are available where the source's rights allow (US federal proceedings, or a licensed source); for every other source you receive phrase facts only. See Data and use.

What is MIT-licensed?

The SDKs (langbot-sdk on PyPI, @langbotai/sdk on npm) and the MCP server (langbot-mcp), so you can read and change the code that runs on your machine. The hosted service is Langbot's own and is provided under the terms.

How do I report a security issue?

Email security@langbot.ai, and please do not post it publicly.
